Iriver 40GB MP3 Player with FM Tuner H-140

Ok, the main points I should tell you immediately are firstly that I have had this now for over 2 and a half years with no problems at all with the unit. The light issue of database software for the PC is ok once you have it running properly. After that it is basically drag & drop song transfer which means no pains of using stupid gimmicks like apple's ipod.

I have used my H140 player extensively at work, in an ENGINEERING WORKSHOP! My job is really dusty and the player has had may impacts with lots of hard objects including the floor, and it continues faultlessly!
It comes with a case which I have mainly discarded to be honest, but only because it means less bulk in my pocket.

The main attraction for me was sheer capacity. At the time this was one of the largest available. I also was looking for fm tuner, so I decided that I would go for this. It does't have the flashyness of the IPod but I believe it to be more convenient in that it accepts all sorts of files like wma, and it's also a good recorder/dictaphone. It can record a single input directly to it's hard drive to mp3 or wav. In my experience it has max record session time of 75 mins, so you need to hit record again at that point, but no biggie there.

OK so it's old now, but it's probably the most rock solid player ever built, and the screen is really resistant to scratches.
This is the Mp3 player version of a trusty old Nokia 3210

Get yourself some Sony fontopia 2 earphones and, if you can track one of these down on a bidding site, it's worth every penny! ;

I took a chance two years ago (2004) buying an iRiver H-140 MP3 player (my first), in a split second change from buying an iPod. My concerns were sound quality, ruggedness, battery life, functionality, input/output options, ease of use... in this order. I intended to use it for jazz archival and I do travel alot so I needed a reliable device.

I can only say, both a month or so after using it, and two years or more later, I am absolutely delighted with the product. The sound quality and versatility, as indeed battery life and ruggedness, are just commendable. Add a separate Sennheiser headphone, and you have a solid music player (the bundled headphones are also quite adequate).

The only grouse, if that, is that it lacks the slickness of the iPod's touch sensitive interface but what iRiver offers is perfectly ok. I have no hangups on Apple's iPod but I would not contemplate any change, as a discerning jazz listener, from this model. Even transferring old LPs into this player and then burning onto CD produces excellent results.

I hope iRiver produces more of the same and does not lose its steam.

Getting an MP3 player was the in thing today but which one was the hard part! I saw the Iriver H140 and decided to have a go at after a friend from Singapore recommended it.

I love ever bit of it! It has great sound, battery lasts just about 14 hours and its really easy to upload and remove songs. No need for a software to be installed in the computer! Its a simple plug and load kind of concept. I still have so much memory left.

I have had it now for over a year and not had any problems with it.
If i ever needed to replace it i would definately buy another Iriver! Its worth every pence and has so much to offer compare to the Ipod.
Iriver seem to creative better machines with more features compared to the Ipod that doesn't even have FM tuner on it!

Only plus point for the Ipod is the wheel feature, other than that Iriver has the upper hand !;
